Feedback Might Be Music to Your Ears
He was tone-deaf.
And yet, every time my beloved Dad attended my high school concerts, I got notes.
Lots of notes.
My Dad scribbled all over the program, offering his critiques. Too slow. Flat. Not enough energy.
Like I could single-handedly fix the entire chorus. Like he could even discern if someone sang off-key.
And yet, he persisted.
Why, might you ask?
Because providing suggestions for improvement is an expression of love
Because sharing feedback is a way to show you really listened
Because there is always room for growth and advancement
Because each of us possesses the power to enact change
Because he genuinely cared
Feedback is a gift.
Wrap it nicely and give it often.
And if you’re lucky enough to be on the receiving end, it’s up to you to decide what, if anything, you’ll do about it.
My Dad’s feedback was music to my ears, even if he couldn’t carry a tune.
