If You’re a Leader, You’re Probably Sorry
I’m sorry, Judith.
I was an epic failure as a first-time manager. Micromanager of the year.
Thrown into unchartered waters without support, it was “sink or swim” – and I sank.
My intentions were good.
My impact was terrible.
I owed Judith better.
Does this sound familiar?
If I had a dollar for everyone who’s told me…
What a terrible first-time manager they were
How they wish they had been better
What they wish they’d known
I’d never have to work again.
Instead, I'm on a mission to prevent new managers from this same fate.
So, what can we do, when it’s too late to apologize to the victims of our early managerial incompetence?
Pay it forward.
Invest in the new managers on your team to help them turn their good intentions into positive impact on the team.
Help them be the type of leader you wish you had been, the type of leader you are today.
What are you doing to pay it forward?
